Interview a 2012 CNN Hero
From children to adults, we all love our heros! This
year’s Silent Auction gives you the unique opportunity to bid on an interview
with a real-life hero.
Lake Mary Police Officer Zachiary Hudson was chosen
as a 2012 CNN Hero for his outstanding contributions to Florida senior citizens.
He was also honored with the 2010 Police Service Award at the International
Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) convention, and featured in a
Parade magazine article.
Appalled by the living conditions of senior citizens
he encountered, Officer Hudson took action. In 2009, he founded the Seniors
Intervention Group (SIG), a non-profit organization dedicated to sustaining and
improving the quality of life for our elderly citizens. Since its inception,
SIG has assisted almost 1,000 seniors.
Officer Hudson has donated two hours of his valuable
time to be interviewed by a high bidder at the Silent Auction. With his
extensive background in law enforcement, as well as his accomplishments in
community service, Zach Hudson is a plethora of information for writers. You
could use him as a resource for your own novel. Or perhaps your interview will
result in writing an article about Officer Hudson for a magazine. You and Zach
will determine your best avenue for capitalizing on this opportunity.
So, be sure to visit the Silent Auction Room at this
year’s FWA Convention to bid on the interview with Officer Hudson, as well as
the myriad of other donations.

1-on-1 Meeting with Publisher Ben LeRoy
1-on-1 Meeting with Publisher Ben LeRoy (Adventure 'til Death)
Have Breakfast with Publisher Ben LeRoy
I’m the Publisher of Tyrus Books, a division of F+W Media. Before that, I founded Bleak House Books.
Before settling into a career in publishing, I delivered things, worked in warehouses, and installed carpet.
I listen to a lot of music from anywhere and everywhere I can get it. Punk. Hip-hop. Metal. Gospel. Country. Indie. Jazz. Post Rock.
Not including the things I’ve published, here are some of the books I’ve revisited a bunch:Deer Hunting with Jesus by Joe Bageant, a book I would make mandatory reading for the entire United States if I was in charge; Franny & Zooey by J.D. Salinger, the most beautiful uses of language and my introduction to understanding the universe; To Kill a Mockingbirdby Harper Lee, a fictional account of the power of crime on the bystanders; and Shot in the Heart by Mikal Gilmore, the most powerful book I know about the effects and complications of crime in a tragic family history. My favorite section of The New Testament is The Book of James. I believe wholeheartedly that words without deeds are meaningless. And that’s why I try to get everywhere, see everyone, and do everything.
The history of baseball fascinates me, especially what it meant to the fabric of this country in the early 20th century. I’ve thrown my allegiance to the most doomed sports franchise in the world, the Chicago Cubs and Tyrus Books was named after my favorite baseball player of all time – Ty Cobb.
I believe in traveling to every corner of the world to get stories from locals. Some of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned were in places like the swamps of northern Florida or the coal country of West Virginia.
I sat on stage with the President. A year later I was in a bar with Mamie and Jesco White. I believe I am the only member of this fraternity.

WonderWorks Tickets
WonderWorks Tickets
2 general admission tickets to WonderWorks
WonderWorks Orlando began as a Top Secret research laboratory on a remote island in the Bermuda Triangle. As legend has it, the world’s greatest scientists – led by Professor Wonder – were given the task of creating a man-made tornado and harnessing the POWER of it. During this experiment, something went awry and the power of the tornado was unleashed throughout the laboratory. This created a swirling vortex that was strong enough to rip the laboratory from its foundation. It was carried thousands of miles away and landed upside-down on the top of a brick warehouse in Orlando, Florida. Remarkably, all of the experiments remained intact and functional.
When you enter the building, everything will be upside-down, so in order to participate in the fun, you must be inverted. Step inside the inversion tunnel and be turned right side up to begin your journey. Once you are properly aligned for your adventure, family fun awaits with more than 100 hands on exhibits. Make WonderWorks a stop on your Things to Do list when visiting Orlando.
